Wende awarded with ‘Gouden Harp’
On Wednesday March 4th 2010 Buma Cultuur announced that no one other than Wende would be awarded with the prestigious ‘Gouden Harp’ award at the annual Harpen Gala. She received the award for her latest album ‘No.9’.
The Buma Gouden Harp is a Dutch award for artists who make an important contribution to Dutch music. The jury was astonished by Wende’s first self-written and composed English album ‘No.9’. Wende has a terrifying fear for repeating herself, but her boundary breaking with musical styles and genres was exactly what convinced the judges to award her with the Buma Gouden Harp. She’s awarded as a vocalist as well as a composer and lyricist. Wende does an outstanding job of bringing cabaret accessible to the general public. Reasons enough to reward her with a Gouden Harp, according to the judges.
Wende’s successful start with French chanson allowed her to emerge to a career like few other artists have. Witness to that fact are last seasons activities; Wende and her band played in sold out club venues, she toured with a major string orchestra in sold out concert rooms and with ‘Chaos’ she shows vulnerability and intimacy as a solo artist in Dutch theatre venues, only to debut this year with her ensemble at the legendary Amsterdam Carré.
From chansonière to singer-songwriter, from French through Dutch to English and from existing repertoire to composing and writing her own songs. Wende was already awarded with two Edison Awards, a Gouden Notenkraker, the B.A.T.-price, the Zonta Award and the Annie M.G. Schmidt-price. Now her latest work has been awarded a Gouden Harp!
